My Junk

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I LOVE SPRING AWAKENING!!!!!

Even though Hunter Parrish abandoned me tonight, his Pete Wentz-look-alike (minus tatoos) replacement had a way better voice and fit the girl who played Wendla much better. And why is this Broadway show closing? And its a terrible thing I found out about $40-day-of-show tickets. And Totally Fucked just gets BETTER AND BETTER each time I see the show. And DAMN can the Ilsa girl sing!!! Merci a 90210 for putting this on my radar.

Speaking of Pete, I'm so proud of myself!!! I skipped the $10 day of CD release show in Times Square!!! Look at my trying to cut my addiction. (But note: I did see Spring Awakening instead) However, Folie a Deux does rock. I'm kind of in love with I Don't Care.

And I LOVE Kristen Stewart. She's refreshing. Cause we can't all be as annoying as Britney or Miley.

Best of you

You know that one song that always makes you smile? Well, mine's best of you by the foo fighters. no matter how many times i listen to it, it's just as good as the first time i heard it.

Eyes on fire

Yep, SEW is really one of the only bloggers i know, so I'll be cheating and tagging one person

So here's how the game works:
  • link to the person that tagged you (done!)
  • post the rules on your blog (um...you're reading them aren't you)
  • write 6 random things about yourself (done...and harder than I expected)
  • tag 6 people at the end of your post (done)
  • let the blogger know that he/she has been tagged (done)
  • let the tagger know when your entry it up (done, after I publish this)
  1. Major concert-a-holic. Living in New York City doesn't help at all. So since October 2, I've seen Matt Nathanson, Weezer, Hanson, Coldplay, Panic at the Disco, Dashboard Confessional, The Academy Is...., Carolina Liar, We the Kings, The Spill Canvas, and Augustana (on the FLY and totally unplanned)!!! they were pretty high......but they were great per usual). I'm going to see Oasis and Ryan Adams in two weeks. Please do not even begin to calculate how much that cost in your head. I'm only living in NYC for so LONG!!
  2. I hate driving. I love the subway. I wrecked a go cart in 3rd grade and it pretty much did me in. So when my grandma asked me to drive her to WalMart this weekend, my heart stopped, my palms got sweaty, and I attacked Houston roads.....and then had a little trouble breathing for a few hours.......but all for my Grandma
  3. I have seen every single cousin of mine on both sides....and even those kinda cousins....since the end of October. Impressive since we all live in 5 different states.
  4. Pretty much since sixth grade, I've had one obsessive focus or another. I'm aware it's stupid and childish, but man, Hanson, Roswell, KSU Sports and Twilight (we can probibly tack going to concerts into this list) have given me some good times. Even if people get tired of me talking about it, I'm content :)
  5. I absolutly hate talking on the phone. Making phone calls I don't want to make give me the same panicked feeling as #2....hating to drive. So if I call you on the phone, you're pretty special :)
  6. I went 10 years without owning a dress. From the time i was 13 until I was 24, I didn't own one.
Now for the tagging. Hopefully you'll all join in the fun! Lindsey and Elizabeth. SEW, you tagged the rest of the people I know.

Never think

well. it's that time. JP's official twilight review. in short. i saw it again today. what does this mean? it was fan-flippin-tastic. done. finished. i loved it. here's a mini rundown of what i can think of:

they said none of the four quotes i listed a few posts ago. They alluded to the heroine line. but, could have done a way better job.

the meadow scene. seriously?!?! couldn't you have done a better job? now i did hear catherine had the perfect place, but then it was covered in ice when they went to shoot the scene. so let's just hope thats the case. but that was a bit of a downer, since the whole series exists b/c of the meadow scene that stephanie drempt of.

loved kristen stewarts voice overs. and the fact she went into the "of three things i was positive" sphele. AND her entrance into the bio classroom. that was SSSOOO cheesy it was great. and i love how she's handling the media. give her a break. kind of refreshing to know that not everyone is miley cyrus or the high school musical girls.

the cullens walking into the cafeteria. enough said. i think angela may be my favorite normal human. However, Bella's dad was GREAT!!!! He may have had some of the best lines in the movie.

jasper. rocked. "that kid that always looks like he's in pain, that's jasper." loved it.

the baseball scene was better than i had anticipated.

and. i wrote about how Summit took their marketing online and social networking pretty seriously. it was great. then on Saturday morning, this popped into my email inbox. and, granted, it's a mass mailing. but the fact that someone took time to do this and sent it out was great.

And since Twilight rocked the box office ($70 mil....that's a harry potter type opening), we now get new moon (!!) which, btw, is my least favorite book. however, i think, if like i saw some of the actors in an interview saying, if they got johnny deppe to be one of the Vulturis, it would be AMAZING. he's a total vulturi. and, i think the concept of the vulturis is pretty stupid. That being said, super excited to see the cliff diving scene and bella crashing motorcycles to hear edwards voice in her head. well, we'll just have to wait a year or two, wont we.

and now that twilight is out, what on earth am i going to blog about?!?!

and if you read my blog, and came to my birthday party this weekend, thanks. you rock! i had fun and hope you did too!!

we've got a big big mess on our hands

note: the twilight clock has no days listed. it's only hours and minutes!!! and my movie tickets are in my wallet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh goodness, and tomorrow is officially my last day in my early twenties. like an earlier status said from facebook........good think twilight is coming out, otherwise i'd have to think about the age i was turning.........

Decode

So as I anxiously await my favorite "candy" book's movie to come out in 2 day (in fact, i'll probably be in my movie seat RIGHT NOW in 2 days!!) i'm going to share with you my favorite quotes from the movie (cause lets face it, my signed, beer stained, ripped up copy is memorized......).

"Stupid, shiny Volvo owner." (I will probably hit my seat mate in overjoyed excitement if this actually gets said........)

“Did you stab Edward Cullen with a pencil or something?”

"Maybe thats not the right comparison. Maybe it would be too easy to turn down the brandy. Perhaps I should have made our alcoholic a heroin addict instead." "So what you're saying is, I'm your bran of heroin?" "Yes, you are exactly my brand of heroin."

"Bella ,I'm not about to let you behind the wheel of a vehicle when you can't even walk straight. Besides, friends don't let friends drive drunk,"
"Drunk?"
"You're intoxicated by my very presence."

"And where do you fit into that scheme?"
"With the vampires of course."

OK, while we're on the twilight run, I got the most awesome shirt ever. I had it made!! It'll be revealed Friday. Now, if you don't speak Twilight, it's stupid. But if you do, IT'S amazing!!!

I'm off to see the long-awaited The Academy Is.....tomorrow night!! And Snow Patrol just announced a show!!! Which may mean I'm skipping Augustana next Wednesday. You have a twilight quote? Please share. I'll report back to you how many actually made it into the movie.

super massive black hole

have you ever had a day that hit you like a ton of bricks? well that was mine.

however, i'm very happy to say, i'm ending it very early with in a peaceful state of mind.

and, just must share. this quote by rob pattinson made me laugh pretty hard. i mean, lets face it, who doesn't love a stupid, shiny volvo owner?!?!

How have you upped your game?

(Laughs) Well, I always knew that girls liked six-packs (laughs), but that didn’t really make me change. Oh! Girls really like guys who drive Volvos. I would never have thought that!

and always remember. whatever ride your on, God has a plan.

Hands Down

Good morning!! I felt the need for a post. As indifferent as I am to New York (ie, usually when I land at the airport in NYC, the rude people and annoying accents really make me want to get on that plane and go back where I came from, and my really good friends are spread out across the other time zones, however, not the eastern) it occasionally rocks. Alas, here's my new list. Why NYC rocks on November 2, 2008.

1) While walking to eat my breakfast and read my New York Times this morning, I randomly happened upon the New York Marathon. It was running 2 avenues away from my apartment!!
2) Obvi...concerts. I complete my 5/5 of favorite songs seen live tonight....breathe in for luck breathe in so deep these words are blessed you share with me....Dashboard and Panic
3) I get to try my luck at meeting Robert "Edward the Vampire" Pattinson this week, cause I live in the city movie stars visit to promote their movies.
4) I don't have to drive to ANY of these things. I get to train it.
5) Although New Yorkers dont appreciate it at all, I got to wear a sweatshirt this morning outside. I LOVE sweatshirt weather.
6) Although close to NO ONE understood my Alice Cullen costume Friday (It was very discreet, to their credit), I headed to the Halloween parade and met up with some friends who were passing out presidential stickers on the corner. Although I'd prefere not to associate myself with either candidate (b/c i'll probibly be voting agaist someone more than for the other, not quite sure yet) it was FUN!! And the costumes were great. Some examples: Rock, Paper and Scissors, Sarah Paliln, A Moose with a shot gun looking for Sarah Palin, Justin and Andy who could sing and dance every word from "Dick in a Box," Russian figure skaters, among others. It was fun.

And just for laughs....make it to the end of this spoof. It' SSOO funny.

The Scientist

So long time no publish. Lots of concerts to catch you up on. I'm aware this is an unstoppable addiction..something like, I don't know, drug addictions. But how many times am I going to be in New York City in high season? good damn question. So, I'll keep going.

Since last I chatted with you, I first saw Hanson. Now, I was lucky enough to meet an awesome british girl who is just as obsessed with Hanson as I am. I also went with a girl I met at my book club. I got in a very long line and proceeded to wait for them to come on. They suprisingly had great opening bands. And then, after three long years of a hanson-less concert existence, they played two crappy songs from their new CD. Then, song 3 got busted out, and I've never seen a group of girls go more crazy than when Hanson starting playing "Where's the Love." They hit some high points, including MmmBop, Penny and Me, A Minute Without You. However, they failed to play Georgia. Which is precisely why I'm skipping the K State KU watch party Saturday to head to Jersey, do The Walk, hopefully meet Taylor Hanson and see Georgia live.

Then, I head a pretty hectic week and headed to Georgia (the state) then to Alabama Friday for Kristi's senior weekend of soccer. Went to a soccer game. Headed down to Panama City to see the first cousin on my mom's side get married. It was a blast. Not a blast was driving all the way back home!! And then KP's last soccer game. Then we headed home.

And then. Oh boy. Coldplay. Easily one of the best performances I've seen. Rank 'em up there with Foo Fighters and Green Day. Maybe ahead of the Foo. Chris Martin is AMAZING. My sibilings and I got my mom the tickets for her birthday. So, after getting back to teh city at 5:00, we headed to Penn Station, and got on a train. We took a train to a bus. On teh way to the IZod center, we got pulled over. Were you aware public busses can be pulled over by cops? Oh well, no harm, no foul. We got there intime for coldplay. They EVEN SANG all my songs: God Put a smile upon your face.....talk.....went up in teh rafters to sing the scientist....and then came back and started my FAVORITE song in the dark. Politik. Which, by the way, should begin playing when the lights are out. See below.

Which has brought me to now. Thursday night. On the verge of a weekend involving the Halloween parade (I'm armed with hairspray, glitter and light foundation to try my hardest to be Alice Cullen.....), Hanson, and Dashboard and Panic all with an extra hour and the KState/KU game.

Snow Song

Good evening all. I'm sitting here on a Monday evening after a holiday waiting on the best night of TV ever (Gossip Girl and Heroes). I'm beat. I'm not moving far. If I walk to my kitchen tonight, it'd be a miracle. So want know why?

It all started on Thursday. I got FANTASTIC news at work. This prompted me to have an impromptu drink with the roommates and a friend. Then I came home and had to kill time for the new Twilight trailer. Which you saw. I'm stoked. Anyways...Twilight news first. So with the last and final trailer coming out, all this informative news keeps coming out about the movie. Like it's 120 MINUTES LONG!! Plenty of time for all that Twilight goodness. Also, this new photo, which sets the scene for one of my faves in the book, the first day Bella sees the Cullens in the cafeteria. If it's at all like this in the movie they got it right!!!! Almost exactly right!!!

OK, now on to my 4 day weekend. Zoe showed up on Friday morning, and as it usually happens anytime we travel together, it was a total blast. Friday we started out downtown to check out the Wall Street debackle on the actual street itself. We then walked ALL THE WAY to via Broadway and ended up at W 4th and ate at teh ever famous peanut butter store. I'm sorry, but you just can't go wrong with the Cookie Dough Surprise. Then we headed to free Friday nights at the Moma, met up with my friend Adriana and had dinner for under $10 a piece, and we ended up full!!! This, my friends, doesn't happen very often in NYC. NYC Pizza Check. The we went on to the next NYC food indulgence....Magnolia cupcakes. Then after chillin in Abbingdon Square we took a little stroll, all teh way up to Herold Square. Then got on the train, came home and promptly passed out.

Saturday, I told Zoe we needed to leave the house before all of the Big XII goodness started for teh day (Okla/Texas, Mizzou/OSU). Well, didn't quite happen, but we had goals for the day, so we left anyway. We headed to Times Square with priorities to buy scarves and get 1/2 price Broadway tix. So we got off the train @ 42nd street and 8th Ave was having a HUGE street fair. So scarves, check. We headed to the Broadway line which turned out to be obnoxious. So we decided to go to the next most awesome tourist trap....Macys!! I mean, seriously, we had coupons. Who ends up walking out of the store w/ clothing? Thats right, the native New Yorker. Luckly, I got all my stuff at either 65% off or 35% off and I got an awesome new skirt and dress. WE also had to have coffee while in Macys, which resulted in us being in a simulted drunken state b/c neither of us drink full cups of coffee very often. We then remembered we needed to RUN back to times square to get our broadway tix b/c it was only 2 hours til most show times. We decide to see Spring Awakening. We get tix, and head to Rockafeller Center to check that off the list. We then meander back and go to the show.

Spring Awakening. I LOVED IT. Note: JP is admitting to really really liking a Broadway show. Well, first of all, teh music was AWESOME. It was done by Duncan Shiek (the I am barely breathing, I can't find the air guy) and it was all rocky/poppy and FANTASTIC. And a great story (teenagers coming of age in the 1890s in Germany). LOVED IT!! Sold, and I'll probibly see it again.

So then we met Kira downtown on the LES. Did the new york night life thing, then came home. Sunday, after a delightful breakfast outside at a local bakery, we saw General Grant's tomb (Did you know it was the largest mosileum in the United States?) after walking through Riverside Park. We then strolled throughout the UWS, down to Zabars, through Central Park, down to St. Patricks, got SALTED CARAMEL HOT CHOCOLATE (heaven). And today we did Prospect Park, and Zoe talked me out of buying the new edition of Twilight w/ the cast cover.

And that was my holiday weekend. And it rocked. And in FOUR days, we saw all these neighborhoods: Financial district, Little Italy, Chinatown, Greenwich Village, Midtown, Times Square, Hells Kitchen, Herold Square, Lower East Side, Park Slope, Harlem, Upper West Side, and Central Park.

That, my friends, is what I call a successful weekend. Peace.

Happy birthday to me!

on my birthday, i would like to hear ONE phrase "stupid, shiny volvo owner."

i'm kind of excited!!!!!

Wonderwall

Concert month of heaven officially kicked off last week with Matt Nathanson. And, well, here's what I have to say about. Once you've seen someone you REALLY REALLY like play in the Parkland High School gym, well, there's no going back. Even if they are in New York City in Times Square. With no Bent or Bulletproof Weeks, Parkland High will forever live as the best Matt concert I've ever been to. On the up side, I did get to hear Come On Get Higher live (aahhh...love this song.) Enjoy at the bottom of the post :)

Other words on the street from Brooklyn, NY. Happy anniversary to me. This Live in New York anniversary. It's this week. How on God's Green Earth did I survive? Good question. But I am. And I've lived here a year. And Yeah!! Go me. I have a visitor this weekend. We're gonna eat like queens, see General Grant's tomb, and do what we want when we want.

And other announcements. So remember how concert heaven was extended? Well. Other posts also said the only way concert heaven fall could get better were if 1) Augustana decided to come and b) Oasis or Muse randomly decided to show up. Well guess what. BINGO! Let's extend concert heaven into December. Can i predict the future? So Augustana is playing the night before Thanksgiving and Oasis the day before I go to Kristi's graduation. I picked Oasis (wonderwall, supersonic, lyla, etc). I'm skipping augustana (for now). So enjoy wonderwall @ the top of the post.

And if any of you have book suggestions, please send them over. I'm at a stuck point. Let's face it, I'm still in hangover from Outlander, which was minorly cured by Twilight, and now I've had a third book do it to me. Time Traveler's Wife.

My Name is Jonas

Q: So what happens when I say I will not go see Weezer and then see a set list like this one at Rolling Stone for the opening night in Boston?

A: I look for the New York show. Find out it's the day I'm looking. Then check Ticketmaster in case they're doing that thing where they have super awesome seats the day of the show. And yeah. They did. Bad news for my addiction to concerts and inability to say no. So my month of concerts begins a week early. So this ticket: roughly translates to:
And now I've seen some of the classics from my high school years, highlighted far and above anything by the sweater song. as well as say it ain't so, hash pipe, what's the story morning glory cover, and my name is jonas. Have a watch:

Comedown

Even though I'm approaching my year anniversary of living in New York (trust me, it hasn't been a walk in the park) I still have the "Oh my goodness, I live in New York freakin' City" moments. Like tonight, after going to book club with a totally random group of girls I didn't know before three months ago, on my way home, with no new books in my bag, I was looking out the window, and there was the Empire State Building all lit up. Last week, I was sitting on the other side of the train, and I looked up and there was the Statue of Liberty. Then I wondered how many people dream of seeing that (even though it is rather small), and realized I get to see it every day if I look up from reading my book.

And the moral of the story is, although New York isn't my dream destination in life, it's great for right now. And the only city I'd trade it for is Kansas City (only if there were k state season sports tickets involved).

The '59 Sound

I'm a true believer in signs. I am. I believe God puts little hints into your life when you need them. And gosh darnit! He's done it to me twice in the last 24 hours. And I'm glad He has because because they always seem to come when I'm struggling with something. So, thanks God! You're awesome.

I'm sitting here finishing up the NC State/East Carolina game. All of a sudden its tied and there's 22 seconds left. And I'm waiting on my mom. She decided to come into they city today! I'm glad, this means I don't have to watch the LSU/Auburn game by myself. That's pretty exciting.

Curious as to what I do at work? Check out the website I've been working on (I am proud of it):
email me :)

I'm the "brains (with some help, of course)" to the updating and partially responsible for the layout. And want to hear a podcast? Check it out there. My voice is saturating the web via conference podcasts. Wehoo!!

Learn to fly

isn't my new background the best? i love it.

so i just had a pretty sad revelation. I sound like my dad. IE. I right now believe that nothing will be better than music in the 1990s. ie. nirvana, foo fighters, hanson, richard marx, that song that they dance to on SNL, etc. is there anything like that right now? nope. i think i could never listen to another modern radio station and be fine. just give me my 90s alternative.

I Don't Care

So, as I'm sitting here in my very sticky 80 degree apartment killing time while watching crappy, not close in score football games before heading to the UES to the K State bar to watch teh K State game, I thought I'd give you an update. JP's Music update to be really specific.

Two of my favorite bands have cds coming out this fall. I found this out this week. So, have a listen. Fall Out Boy's I Don't Care and Snow Patrol's Take Back This City. This is in addition to Matt Nathanson, Hanson, Coldplay, Panic and Dashboard, and now The Academy is (Thanks, LO!) I'll be in music heaven. I'm enjoy this so called music heaven. What more could I ask for? I always love more Augustana, but I won't push it. Oh wait. I know. OASIS or the MUSE!!

That's really about it for my week. I do have a new mission. I decided I'm going to conquer my shower drain. Currently, after one shower, the water stands about ankle deep in my tub. That's one. I'm third in line in the morning. So, you can imagine how deep my ankles are in the morning. BUT NOT ANY LONGER! I'm conquring it. I'll keep you updated. Test #1 is goign so far, but there have only been two showers taken.

OK, that's it. Go Cats. And Nedal.

You're All I Have

So if you know me well, you know it doesn't take much to put a huge smile on my face. So I thought I'd share the little joys of my Tuesday evening with you.

Many of you may know I love random things. And due to being banned from watching 90210 while in elementary school, I'm now on a mission to see every single episode. Which I've made it to the fourth season. I'll pick back up sometime. But anyways.....the new one started tonight. And it's AWESOME. I liked it. So this quirk of seeing all 90210 episodes has lead into a new series. We hoo. Someone should have picked up on Silver. Duh! And Rob Estes?! You were my fav character on Melrose Place!! And Annie (my former Darcy on Degrassi) you rock too. Dear Kellen Lutz, please encourage a Twilight preivew next week, I'd be super happy.

After three years of wanting purple kangaroos, I gave it. I got some. They're arriving in the mail shortly b/c I've never actually seen the color I want (purple) in the store.

And the inspiration to write this post....SNOW PATROL. Granted, I took a hating to them for a while b/c they bailed on me in Nantes due to a drummer's broken arm. So I've slowly been getting back into them. If you can name when and where you were the first time you heard a band's song (Me, Sophomore year of college end of 2nd semester, Run, @ the season finale of OTH) you know it's something special. Anyways...the wait is over. October 28. I'll buy it on the spot. They're just one of those bands for me. And they're on Live from Abbey Road right now.

And thats it. SEO's wedding was fantastic. She was georgous. LM and I enjoyed our LONG car rides to and from Denver with our Sonic. And hanging out w/ JCA between teh car rides was pretty fantastic. Oh yeah. AND K STATE WON. Go Josh, way to win teh first big xii player of th week award!!

1) The Rocky Mountains (FINALLY)
2) Diet cherry limeaide with extra cherries
3) LM JCA and SEO (SW when I get back)
4) Maybe a game of pitch (?)
5) College football
6) My hot dress and freakin high high heels
7)The western US
8) Less than a 5,000 people in a square mile radius
9) A wedding (not mine of course)
10) A four day weekend

Sad Songs

Well. I forgot to post the other night. Some of the coolest news ever!! Sorry Harry Potter is not coming out on November 21. This does suck. However, Twilight took its spot!! So for JP's 25th birthday, I'll be going to see Edward and gang. And then doing something that resembles a party somewhere. I mean, seriously, I can't just go see my current obsession book on my birthday. That's no fun! Let's hope they did as good of job of translating it into a movie as they did with The Notebook.

I got my Panic! at the Disco tickets today. Now, there's a Death Cab show. Do I go and hope they sing Translationism and We Looked Like Giants? Undecided at the current moment.

Shawn Johnson rocks. She's my new fav Olympian. I REALLY hope she's back in 2012.

OK. Point of this post. I added a blogroll. Obviously, you read mine. So if you have one you update, and I'm unaware, please let me know. I'll add it and READ it!!

You have a lovely weekend. I'm going home to hang out with my mom before I head out to Kansas next weekend, then officially spend weekends watching LOTS and LOTS of football. I went to a Yankees game!! With my dad. It was fun. And we were in teh no drinking section (? what is it with me finding the no drinking things?????). Did you knwo they had those at pro sports games?

Bulletproof Weeks

So, I've been listening to Matt Nathanson a lot lately. For some reason, I find him incredibly relaxing. So, have a listen. He's a guy and a guitar. And when you go see him in a show, he's got the biggest potty mouth I've ever heard. I bought my first Matt Nathanson CD in 2004. And then I got Some Mad Hope recently. And yeah. Anyways the reason I began to write this post! I live in Brooklyn now!! The first Brooklyn song I heard while living here was by Matt Nathanson!!

http://www.prettytheworld.com/index.php?m=music&c=lyrics&lyric=184&title=Bulletproof+Weeks

I get to go to Kansas in two weeks. In fact, that's why I turned the computer on in the first place. JCA informed me there are no Sonics in McCook, Nebraska. So, I have to find one on I70 between Denver and Sarah's hometown. I've been counting down the days to drinking Sonic since I last left Kansas in May. And DARNIT! I'm HAVING SONIC! I'm going to go find one now :)

Bottled Up Inside

So, some people have a weakness for clothes. Some people have a weakness for shoes. And then there's me. Concerts. And excitingly I'm in NYC (Or we could look at that as a sad thing for my bank account). And I have one rockin' concert season coming up this fall. Want to know who?!

10/2 -- Matt Nathanson
10/20 -- Hanson
10/27 -- Coldplay
11/2 -- Dashboard Confessional and Panic At the Disco

And that's with me skipping Weezer. AKA the sweater song. And word on the street is, the best season for concerts in NYC is the fall. So that may not be it.

So the two bands i'm dying to see: Oasis and the Muse. (I freakin missed Muse @ MSG last summer :( )

In Your Eyes

I'm not sure who the original "In Your Eyes" is by, but I've been in love with Jeffery Gaine's ever since the first time I heard it. I think it's the acoustic guitar. But that's just my guess. In lieu of my facebook status (I'm loving the new Gossip Girl ads around town) I thought I'd share my new fav. gossip girl commercial. And appologize for this horrid background. But I needed something different. I'm in search of a tasteful brown one. So if you come across one, let me know, otherwise we're staying with She's Got Style.

Cannon Ball

Good evening! I'm chilling here on a Sunday evening (often times my fav time of the week) waiting on my chat buddies for a group chat. And I figured, I'm aiming for more than four posts in August. :) I had a rather delightful weekend. Friday, Mike came. We went to the famed peanut butter store. I had a cherry cheesecake PB and J (Crunchy peanut butter, vanilla cream cheese and cherry jam....yum!!). Then we went to Pineapple Express. I think it's safe to say that I saw that movie because James Franco had long hair. But it was pretty funny. Then we came back and watched the tivoed opening ceremony for the Olympics. So here is what I have to say about that: We should be embarrassed. Where'd they pick the commentators up? The street corner?! They were so derogatory to some of the countries in the parade of nations. And why oh freak why did we see George Bush when the American athletes were walking in?! No, I'm watching the Olympics to see the athletes. Not my poor excuse for a president Bush.

Saturday started out wide open. I got my newspaper...and got 2 sections. NYT home delivery on weekends is OVERRATED. They forgot the front page AND the sports page. Idiots. Then I ended up going to Roosevelt Island for the first time to hang out with my cousin, and we ended up seeing Batman. Then I met Adriana downtown for a beer. And that was good too.

So I'm falling off my rocker with concerts in new york city. I've also pretty much committed all my fun money to them. It's ok, I'll survive. BUT. I missed the fact that one of my emo bands is playing on TUESDAY!! The Maine. It's sold out, of course. But I think I'll swing by the Roseland after work and see if someone wants to sell me a ticket :) BUT!! Exciting news.

So I'll preface it with my five favorite songs of all time (In no particular order):
1. Stars and Boulevards - Augustana
2. Hands Down - Dashboard Confessional
3. Possession - Sarah McLachlan
4. Work - Jimmy Eat World
5. Best of You - Foo Fighters

So I've seen all of those songs LIVE except...Hands Down. Does it get better than Dashboard Confessional, Panic At the Disco, and the Plain White Ts? NO! Rock band tour, yeah. And I can complete that live songs list. And thats one of those concerts where I listen to all teh bands. Which is awesome after the past few concerts I've been to where I only listen to the headlining band.

Other news....would this be a JP post without Twilight news? Nope. I finished Breaking Dawn. I got it Friday @ midnight and finished it Tuesday night. That was with a FULL weekend of touristing. And some people hated it. I loved it. I thought it ended just as it should have. And I loved the fact that both Monday and Tuesday morning. A OH MY GOSH! moment happened just as I got to the 34th Street metro station. I get off at 42nd. Both days!! I got laughed at several times on the train too, for my rather vocal reactions.

So now I’ll spend my evening watching gymnastics and swimming and chatting with some of the coolest people ever :)

Cruel Summer

Well, it's been ONE crazy week. I'll tell you about it.

So Mike came in Tuesday, and we met at the Port Authority to go to the Foo Fighters concert. He picked up dinner...and all I have to say is McDonalds, you can't rip off the ChicFilA Chicken sandwich if you aren't using real chicken. So we ate outside the IZod Center in Jersey, and then went in to find our seats. Well, I know that I had 6th row, but mike and I get to the bottom and turns out 6th row is code for first. SO! We had front row to the Foos. And it turns out it was the last night of the tour. So everyone usually watching backstage came outside and stood in front of us. So at the begining of the show, a lady brings out a 3 year old with adorable pink noise blockers. Then the Foo Fighters came on, and she was out there again with her mom, climbing on the stairs going up to the stage. The Dave came over and got this huge goofy grin and the little girl freaked, so it was Dave's daughter. My heart melted. Bad ass Dave Grohl melting at the sight of his daughter. And she was ADORABLE. And Dave is like 1000x more attractive than he was. Well, Mike and I didn't get home til 1:30. (meaning I will die when my mom and I go see Coldplay in Jersey).

So Wednesday I was in bed by 9:30 because I had to get up at 4:45 to go to Good Morning America!! I got there around 6:25, Laura came and met me. We went inside and stood for two hours, but were warmly rewarded when Stephenie came out and signed our books and took a picture with us!! Since my roommate Laura did such a good job of recounting the experience...check out her blog...and it has pictures.
http://redheadedchick.blogspot.com/2008/07/frivolity.html

And then, I didn't get much sleep last night either. No good for me and sleep this week. But here's what I learned today: Jenny + Little sleep + the dentist = not a good situation. I hate the dentist. But since I hadn't been in two years, i had no cavaties and didn't have to go back for that drilly thing.....it went well!!

And now, I'm getting ready to go to the Park Slope Barnes and Noble. I'll be the 12th owner of Breaking Dawn at Midnight. YEAH!!

Optomistic

Well. Time for another list. This list: why NYC rocks the week of July 28

1. It's like 80 degrees. the perfect temperature
2. I get to see my brother tomorrow.
3. And Dave Grohl. And hopefully Hero not acoustic.
4. I got goggles so I can start swimming at the local Y after my marathon week is over.
5. Stephanie Meyer is in NYC promoting her new book and on GMA Thursday morning. And I'm going. (high squeaks coming from my corner RIGHT NOW!!)

I personally won't get over 5 until 6 comes along.

6. Friday night at 12:01........

I'm suffering from twilight overobsession at the current moment. anyways....so the movie comes out in December. Kristin Stewart better say "Stupid shiney volvo owner" in the movie. It'll make it. I promise.

Green Eyes

Well, we can all thank JCA for the motivation for this post! She wanted pictures of the new place in Brooklyn. And now I'll introduce you!! I have a really small room. But the room is perfect, my DOUBLE bed, exactly four tiles of space and HUGE closets. I'm still working on where to put the trash can. Note the tower fan.....a natural hate of fans quickly evaporates when it's 90 degrees in your apartment. Next we have the living room....gorgeous windows overlooking Sixth Ave in Brooklyn (perfect for sunday mornings with the new york times), and thanks to my parents this weekend....AN AIR CONDITIONER!!! And then we have another living room with the couch and tv (and Tivo!! speaking of...anyone seen gossip girl previews?!?! I'm pretty excited to say the least) And then the hallway, my new roommates rooms, bathroom and kitchen. Not too shabby folks.

Not too much else. So your recap for July. I started out by moving. Chris and Jake were kind enough to help me....when moving my stuff, I guess I kind of miscounted my boxes and ended up riding the subway to my new place and Chris and Jake drove.....but they had the boxes upstairs by the time my subway ride was over!! July Fourth I went to Prospect Park with my new roommate and her friend and we had a cookout. Then I went to see the fireworks next to the Brooklyn Bridge. Two weekends ago, I took a trip to see Brad and Carrie get married :) I forgot how much I miss my Kansas family. And their wedding was just a blast. And my little brother Mike. I'll just stop there..hahaa...

This past weekend, my aunt and uncle were in town. I spent Thursday evening with them. Friday, a friend and I decided to get pina coladas with my friend Adriana and we ended up walking from 2nd Ave and 42nd Street to 12th Ave and 42nd Street all the way to 6th Ave and 4th Street. Um, long way. But it was fun. Saturday my parents came into town once they went out to dinner. I went out with my new coworker (who is pretty much awesome) and experienced my first roof-top bar (I'm a fan of jeans and beer at bars.......but I'll try a few of these places) and got home after the sun was rising (a first for me...maybe my last too.....). Went to a movie on Sunday. And it was a lovely weekend. A weekend that felt like I was meant to be in Brooklyn. I like those weekends. I hope they keep coming.

Things to look forward to: Mike and I are going to teh Foo Fighters a week from tonight :) Sixth row. Breaking Dawn.....I'm spending August 3rd with Edward the Vampire. And I'm so excited I can't see straight. My teacher I worked with from France is coming next week!! I'll show her around New York. I'm going to Houston for Thanksgiving!! Another one of my cousins is getting married. And I decided to go. And another one of the reasons my new coworker is so awesome. We're going to Hanson in October (!!!!!!!!!!). Maybe i'll finally meet them and then I can finally stop being obsessed. And Kansas in August with all my college friends.

And that's all for now, folks. Hope you enjoyed a tour of my brooklyn apt :)

When it's over we still have to clear up

So. I did end up moving to Brooklyn. and obviously it's going pretty well b/c I haven't blogged about it. I'll catch you up more later....but let me just tell you how awesome park slope is....

reasons park slope rocks tuesday, july 15:

-the subway is approx a 4 minute walk
-the $3.25 i spent on a slice of pizza and grape koolaid
-my roommate and i went to prospect park in 10 minutes and sat outside and heard a spoon concert
-on my way home, because i wanted to, i reserved my copy of breaking dawn at the local barnes and noble. it was a three minute walk.

Ride

Well, here's the usual Sunday post. So. Ride by Cary Brothers. I LOVE this song. The Last Kiss soundtrack introduced it to me. Along with Remy Zero. Zach Braff, I think you should come out with another movie just so I could have the soundtrack. And I watched The Last Kiss with my friend this weekend. Awesome movie. But I think this song is a "go with the flow" song. And that is something I'm going to try really hard to do over this month of July.

So, I'm moving to Brooklyn this week. Park Slope, here I come. I'm also going to start sleeping on the full bed I just bought (I'm so excited!! It's brand new!) My parents came into the city this weekend to help me pack. After living in Kansas and them in Texas, and then me in France and my parents in a variety of locations, I must say, it's pretty awesome to have your parents that close. I'm a fan. So my life is in boxes yet again. Let's see where it takes me. (Did I mention I'm tired of packing yet?)

So. I love Sundays. I'm not sure why. Maybe because it's the one day I don't feel the need to keep myself busy every second of the day. I allow myself to sleep in (except for the fact that I set my radio to go off around 8:30 am so I can enjoy Acoustic Sunrise on the radio......AS, it's 3 hours of live and unplugged adult alternative on Fresh 102.7 in NYC and I just enjoy it). I go and read the news paper. Then today, I came home and read during a thunderstorm and then watched the Euro 2008 final. (Yeah Spain!!) And I've just done nothing the rest of the evening. I did skip church..but when it was time to go, it was pouring buckets and severe thunder storming outside.

So there's your weekend update. I love Sundays. That was pretty much the point of this post. Oh...I'll fill you in on something else. So the book I finished today was Picture Perfect by Jodi Picoult. Good...except for it was about a famous movie star who beat his wife. OK, well, the last book I read by this lady was about a school shooting. What a downer!! I need something lighter. I'm ready for August 2nd so I can read Breaking Dawn already...... but if you have any book suggestions, I'd be up for them. So I was looking at the top fiction sellers in the NYT today, and I'd read around five!! I was proud of myself for that.

And I got the new Coldplay CD (via Mike....siblings buying music is awesome!!). I'm not sure I'm a fan. I'll have to listen to it some more. I feel like I need a list for this post. So in honor of my Coldplay tix I bought today for someone's big birthday...I'll give you my top five coldplay songs.
1. God Pust a Smile Upon Your Face (Let's face it, it's the scene everyone had been waiting for for two years (except for me, I was watching it on DVD so it only took me like a month)....and the song was freakin awesome!)
2. Shiver......makes me shiver it's so good
3. Politik (I CANNOT wait to see this one live)
4. Green Eyes (Last Kiss Soundtrack......it's just the best)
5. Talk

Meet You There Someday

I said I think I'm moving to Boston....I mean Brooklyn!! Oh, the joys of having one of your bands sing about a town that starts with the same letter of the town you're moving too. Yep, that's right folks, I'm moving to Brooklyn. Why? Well, for many reasons...but most importantly, I found a pretty sweet apartment with some awesome girls who seem like they'd be good roommates. And for a bigger apartment (even though I'm pretty sure my room will be smaller.....but I have a full wall sized closet!) So I'm moving to Park Slope...the current hot spot in Brooklyn. My commute to work will be the same (45 minutes on the train), but just from the south!! And after some research, close to my new home will be: take out and bars and some wine sippin in my apartment!! And a huge park 3 blocks away. No more thirty minute train rides for anyof these things. I do have to purchase a bed. This will effectively drain my savings. But you know what? I saved it once, so I can save it again!

Other news in my world........I also got to move cubicles this week. Where? Oh yeah, the one with a window that overlooks Third Ave. It was a pretty sweet week for me moving to good places.

Which leads me to an apology for anyone that dealt with me during the end of April through May. I'm sorry, if you crossed my path, I probably wasn't nice to you. I had a HORRIBLE time. In fact, probably one of the worst string of weeks I've ever had. And I don't know why. I sure do know my mom was ready to push me out a window when we went to visit my grandma. Heck, I was ready to push me out a window (not literally, but.....)

Well, I'm finally reading a book that's not centered around romance or historical figures. I picked up 17 Minutes last week when one of the girls I work with said Jodi Picoult was her favorite author. So this book is about a school shooting from every angle. The judge, the kids that survived, the killer, the people working the case. It's really good. I encourage this read. In fact, when I was doing my normal nyt and starbucks, it was on the nyt best sellers list.

Well, gotta jet, but I'll write more later!

Twilight Tuesday

Is back and in action (visit MTV.com for your latest news). If you read my blog, I think you know I'm obsessed with it. But, I just finished reading my daily Twilight Tuesday.....and they talk about added scenes to the movie from the book...always a bit iffy....but the scene from today, I think this movie is going to be GREAT.

so from the scene:

bella: are you going to tell me how you stopped the van?
edward: um, yeah..........I had an adrenalin rush. They're very common. Google it.

I love it I love it. OK, I'm off to babysit now. I think Alexandra and I will go to my favorite park in the city....Riverside Park.

20 Years

Dear Thunderstorms in New York --

This is a letter to you via my blog. First off, I'm glad you finally showed up. I'm a bit annoyed with the timing. So, we've had two of you this week. First, on Tuesday, my roommate was very nice and decided to invite me to Death Cab for Cutie (as in Translationism, Marching Bands of Manhattan, We Looked Like Giants). So on Tuesday, half way through their set, the wind picked up, the lightening started and we got sent home (Concert in a old pool.....sssoooo cool). So everyone had to climb up the sides of the pool, it started lightening like a mad house, and then HUGE raindrops decided to start falling. Faster and faster. Then, it just full on downpoured. And we were soaked. So when we finally got to the Bedford train station (With the rest of the people who were at the death cab concert) we had to wait in a hot sticky line of lots of high people. Not cool.

And yesterday, I went to see Vampire Weekend in Central Park for FREE! Well, midway through the first band, it starts pouring. And thundering. The band stops, we get kicked off the bleachers....and stand in a monsoon thunderstorm.....for two hours. And then it stopped and the concert continued!! And tehn Vampire Weekend came on....and it started to rain again!! It was a very wet experience. Will I ever go to an outdoor show again? Of course, concerts are my favorite thing in the whole entire world.....I just hope it doesn't rain!!!!

Other than that, my week has been full of soccer (Euro 2008, yeah baby!!). And rereading the Twilight series. And work. Oh. Thunderstorm are good because it's not that hot outside. and I dont have air inside. And who knew you could sleep in 88 degree weather....but not 95 degree weather?? I've never been so excited for an 88 degree day in my life. So now i'm off to starbucks to read the New York Times (I love the sunday edition!) and drink my starbucks before coming home to watch the hottest man in the world and the rest of my european country of origin kick some Swiss ass :)

Soccer rocks my world

Not to mention the Euro 2008s start this week. I'm going to be in soccer heaven!!

ps US, please do better against Spain.

And I feel all of you need to watch this. David Beckham is not only one of the hottest men alive, he's damn good at soccer.

An Olive Grove Facing the Sea

So since I'm sitting here doing nothing on a Saturday night, I figured I'd finish my blog I started writing yesterday.

So on my mission to meet friendly people in New York, I went to a meetup.com spa party. It wasn't bad. The leader was cool. Then I headed over to Bed Bath and Beyond. I bet you'll have no idea why!!

So yesterday morning, I had just finished taking a shower, and was going to blow dry my hair in my room as usual. So, I plugged in my blow drier, turned it on and....snap crackle, poof, the chord was on fire. Yep, my blow dryer burst into flames. So I had a momentary "oh shit! my blow dryer is on fire" moment before deciding I needed to blow on the chord and extinguish the fire. So I did. Then I threw the blow dryer in the trash can. Luckily my hair wasn't that dry, so I went curly yesterday.

So at BB&B, I bought a hair dryer. Then I headed to the Barnes and Noble, in search of my happy place (It's so few and far between these days). So, my happy place? The end of the third Twilight book.....it gave me the first chapter to the fourth. I think it's gonna be GOOD!! I have a feeling the ending of the book won't be to many peoples liking though (You know, as in the vampire and the human.....the vampire's going to leave the human...that's my bet). Happy place #2 of the weekend: MTV Movie Awards preshow...1st scene from the movie!! And then begin counting down to August 2. for the book.

And now I'm home. Watching Troy. Which always makes me laugh. We know why most girls enjoy to watch this movie. In fact, the first time I saw it, it was my sophomore year spring semester finals week of a movie. And pre-phsyco Brad Pitt. Which leads me to to my most vivid thought I've ever had during a movie. So when he's captured the really annoying chick, and she tries to kill him, then he flips over and he's naked, I vividly remember thinking word for word, "How convenient, he sleeps in the nude."

For as long as I can remember (when I was in approximately 7th grade), I've written, for lack of a better term, a script. I mean, straight through, there wasn't a time in my teenage or adult life when one wasn't being written. Most girls keep books and books of diaries. Nope, not me, I've got one masterpiece at a time of lines and lines of dialogue (most are dated and numbered). I wouldn't ever let anyone read it because it's corny. It's so bad. When I try to explain it, I often tell most it's how my dream life would be. The longest one I ever wrote was 3 1/2 years long (sophomore year of highschool to freshman year of college), and zillions and zillions of notebooks. Don't mention it to my mom, b/c she accidentally threw away the first two notebooks when we moved to Texas (see, i've been doing it a long time). She nor I will ever forget that. But I've been in a two month rut. I've written nothing. I have no inspiration. I'm worried. Last weekend I sat down and picked out names. Still, nothing. Maybe now that I've confessed this to people (b/c people do read my blog!!) it'll come back. Because I miss it. It's been as constant as the Bible in my life. And I want that reliability back.

And now I'm going to watch the Notebook. B/c when you don't have a boy, Noah is a good temporary fix (:

I Will Posess Your Heart

So, I just got the new Death Cab (: Let's see if I can resist buying $40 tickets to their show in Brooklyn.

Anyways, on to what I was going to write a few days ago. So I started out my week this week by hanging out w/ one of my roommates. It was BEAUTIFUL so I suggested people watching in Central Park. FYI. People watching is one of my favorite sports. Especially when you probibly have someone from 50% of the worlds countries in one place at one time.

Sunday I got up to go to church, just missed teh train (as in I saw it leaving the platform as I swiped my metro card). So I decided to go Starbucks as normal and buy the New York Times. I sat down at the window seat with my iced carmel machiatto and my NYT and an older man with the most annoying chewing noises preceeds to chew. So I got up and decided to go to Riverside Park and sit in the sun and read the NYT. Which I did. And then I couldn't resist the beautiful sunny Sunday and not listen to "Sundays Best" by Augustana. Fun!! So I made it to church at 5:30 and saw my friend so I saw her new place.

Then Monday my friend and I decided to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, then we ended up going Coney Island (I will never do that again) and promptly leaving and trying to find Prospect Park (failed all 3 times, but! we did find a crappy mexican place to eat).

And anyways....per usual I have somoe lyrics for you. They struck a cord with me this week that I hadn't realized before.

Well I've been running from something
Twenty years in my car
Down a road that's leading me nowehere
Yeah we drive through the farmland
No one knows where I'm from

Song #2

And all you see
Is where else you could be
When you're at home
Out on the street
Are so many possibilities
To not be alone

State of the Union

So, I'm aware close to no one reads my blog. But that's OK! I'm not too good at keeping up. And I talk about like three things. Things have looked up a little since the last time I wrote. Obviously, I'd just come back from Kansas and left my wallet on an airplane. That was no good and no fun.

So, I'm posting because I think this week I saw one of the best song I've ever seen live and I'd like to share it with you. But first I'll tell you why. I got to see my favorite band. Twice. Did I mention they're the best live? Kira and I headed to Jersey Tuesday night for my Augustana show. When we got there the room was no bigger than my living room. Heaven. We're talking my favorite band here. But David Ford opened and sang "State of the Union." Watch the video at the bottom of the post. Its positvitly amazing. And then I went to my first solo concert Wednesday and the Bowery Ballroom. Not too bad. I survived.

Anyways, after seeing Augustana two nights in a row live, here's what I have to say about their new CD. The only reason I was so dissapointed at first was because I'd been listening to songs live all summer. They studioized them. And I saw the rest of the songs live. Lets just say "Twenty Years" may be ranked up there with Stars and Boulivards. A few others as well.

And I've come up with another life goal. I'm going to South by Southwest one year. I'm taking a week off of work and going. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Twenty Years (The new Stars and Boulivards):

Traffic Jam

I love being Catholic. Why? Oh many reasons. I do enjoy my readings of the day. Like today, for example:

Jas 1:1-11
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,to the twelve tribes in the dispersion, greetings.Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. And let perseverance be perfect,so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom,he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it.But he should ask in faith, not doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the seathat is driven and tossed about by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he willreceive anything from the Lord, since he is a man of two minds, unstable in all his ways.

well, with this reading in mind, I'll give you some advice: Never accidentally leave your wallet on the airplane. it's not a smart idea. anywhere. but especially in new york city.

and i still love kansas. its my favorite state (;

Hey Now

So thank goodness it's 9:34 at night. That means I only have to wait an hour to go to bed. Which is a good thing, because I've had a horrible day. It's been terrible. Something happened, then I got on the train and walked to a seat and got yelled at by a guy "Hey! EXCUSE you!" "I'm sorry, what'd I do?" "you know exactly what you did." well, ass hole, no i don't. and you capped off a shitty day, and my three months of not crying was up. Yes, Asshole, because of YOU, I cried all the way home. I hate the D train. I've never been on it when a bunch of sketchy people from the Bronx weren't.

Anyways. Augustana did come out today. And I had such a bad day I sat and listened to it all the way through tonight. Oh boy. My favorite band. I prefer you live. I do. You're good on CD. But I've had you live, and well, let's face it. It's the reason I've got two concert tickets on my desk for your two nights in NYC. And after hearing Sweet and Low acoustic.....aaaahhhhh....can you just play your whole set acoustic?! Please?! OK. On to cd review. What idiot made you change the words of "heart shaped gun." Those are still the words I sing when I listen to "Hey Now." Other than that, I'm in love. And I'll see you in Hoboken.

PS. You're working your way up from when I saw you in Philly and I turned to my brother and said "Oh my goodness, they're the ugliest band I've ever SEEN!!" Dan. You look much better with cut hair.

Curve of the Earth

I know I'm two weeks behind. I'm sorry. But instead of write a lenghty post, I'm just going to tell you things I think you should know:

1. Augustana....TUESDAY. Yes, I dont think I've been this excited about a CD release in 3 years. But I'll prepare you. I'll bitch about how they sound like they sold out, then I'll go to their two concerts two nights in a row in the NYC area and be just as in love with them as I am now because let's face it. They're the best live. Or they're just the best.

2. I had choclate chip pancakes with toasted coconut on top for breakfast this morning after church. Yum.....

3. My room is currently spotless because I CLEANED it. I mean Cleaned. Thanks to Megan and Laura for various forms of motivation.

4. For the first time in my life, i'm willingly and knowingly skipping a Hanson concert. Hey, looks like I might be growing up after all.

5. I got to hang out at the park at the playground in 70 degree weather with a four year old this week and it was worth every minute of it. It was a blast.

6. Sex in the City is getting better. However, I'd like to find out where the abundance of men is in the city. I'm not finding any.

7. Oregon was a blast. Zoe and I climed up a mountain, saw a gray whale, and went to a recreation of Raiders of teh Lost Ark, recreated by 13 year olds.

8. I'm going home next weekend b/c my sister is coming!!!

That's it for this week. Be prepared I wont write til May (c;

Oh. and

9. GOSSIP GIRL IS BACK!! however how stupid are they to bring on michelle tracktenburg? haven't they figured out EVERYONE hates her. really. seriously.

My Hero

I still love the foo fighters. good thing, I've got sixth row tickets to their show in July.

Crappy, crappy day, folks. It started at 8 am. Why? Who knows!! I talked to my most excellent friend LM for quite a long time last night after getting home later than expected due to some awesome folks at the IIR and karoke. Which should tell you I ended up in bed around 2:30 am. Why? Who knows. So why does natural body alarm wake up at 7:58?! Good question. But up side, i did find a starbucks with in walking distance of my house. So I went, sipped on a iced carmel machiato, and tried to read mists of avalon. Did you know Arther slept with his sister and produced a child? You'd figure that would be the interesting part of the book but oh no. it was terrible!! and it's not getting any faster.

so then i came home, on a beautiful 70 degree day, and sat inside waiting on the cable man. guess what. he was a no show. so at 5:00 i left and went downtown and mosied around. then i decided i was having steak for supper. so i did after i bought one at the grocery store.

and yeah. my day. oh, i started this post because now that its warm outside, lots of people are outside. so, i'm going to start hearing all teh crappy pick up lines i hear that must only work on prostitutes. where are the good guys of the city? good darn question i think i found out today that women outnumber men something by like 20,000 or so in nyc. great. anyways, on to the prostitute pick up line. i was walking down the sidewalk and really couldn't get through due to a group of dogs and guys. so i say excuse me.

"oh don't be afraid. the dog wont bite you but i will."

yeah! i'm going to bed. maybe my natural body alarm will wake me up intime to go to the arsenal/man u game at the fanatical soccer bar in the city. if not, i'll watch it on tv here.
well that's good to know.

Best Of You

Ahhh.... the one song that still makes me pretty happy every time it comes on the radio. Anyways, this post is dedicated to things I like a lot.

Good books. Like the one I have now....Mists of Avalon. It's working out for me. you should read it if you need a book (this is only if I haven't pushed Outlander on you. Only after you've read Outlander may you begin Mists of Avalon)

Sweatshirt weather. Aka, let's go outside, it's about 55 degrees and no need for a coat, just a cozy K State sweat shirt and it's warm enough your hands don't get cold.

New songs on the IPod. Nope, don't have any right now, b/c I'm bordering on poor. But I don't know if you're like me, you listen to the same seven songs all the time. Which leaves for not much new stuff.

Traveling. I'm falling so far behind. Granted I have lived in Europe for a considerable amount of my adult life which leads to traveling at every week break opportunity. Well 1) I'm poor. 2) No week break opportunities here in the good ol' Etats-Unis. BUT!! I'm going to Oregon which will be just fantastic (Zoe, killer whales, and glasses of wine in a HOME SETTING!! what's not to love??) and Kansas (well, I just can't portray how much I love Kansas...as many of you know) and Atlanta/Alabama several times at the end of the year. Oh and Denver/Kansas as well in August. I FINALLY get to see the rocky mountains!!!!

My new 90s rock station I've managed to make on Pandora. Yep. "Learn to fly" station creates for all the 90s music I love. Speaking of 90s music, I also am watching Party of Five season 3 on DVD!! I'm pretty sure I should have had my 20s in the 90s. but oh well, i'm in my 20s now and it's not shaping out too bad.

Alias. Ah. well, vaughn, season two, a little ethan hawke and two roommates who also love it? what's not to like?!

Card games. Pitch specifically. There were some good times to be had playing hours and hours of pitch. I kinda miss it.

College sports. Enough said.

OK, now my ranting for the week. As a single female in a city of weirdos.....mail is exciting. However, save the date mail doesn't count as real mail. KRock is chasing after some CRAPPY need to infiltrate crappy 80s and 70s rock into my alternative station. NO GOOD. and it's april. Get to sweatshirt weather!! And ok. Hanson. My fav band. I told myself I was NOT going home specifically for their concert (cause who plays Allentown, PA and not NYC? oh yeah, that's right, Hanson). And what happens? My dear sister decides to come home THE EXACT DAY. So my proceedings on May 2 are yet to be known. B/c when it comes to Hanson, I revert into a 14 year old psycho that I was then. But maybe I've grown up. But to be that close to Taylor Hanson and not see him sing Where's the Love? I'm not sure I'm capable of saying no.(ah...self esteem is now playing....GREAT GREAT. i love old school offspring. I'd also like to know where all the cool people who don't binge drink that are my age hang out in nyc.

ok, you all have a lovely week. I'm for Memphis to beat KU. I'm going to go eat, b/c I haven't yet!!

Home Sweet Home

So in my normal tradition, I've titled my post according to what song I'm listening too. How odd, you'll find out why as you reach the bottom of the post.

So there have been many times I've been tempted over the last few months to just sit down and express on my blog how unhappy I am with my life is right now. And I haven't. First, because no one really wants to hear about the crappiness in some one's life while reading a blog. Second, b/c I work in new media and have only begun to learn about how crazy Internet stalking go and I don't want Joe Bob from Company X in several years to discover this blog while he's stalking me on the Internet to find out my true candidacy potential. So, in a way, I feel I hit close to bottom this week. I still don't have many friends in New York. I know this is in part due to my personality. I'm quiet. I don't talk much in groups. And that's no one's fault, that's just the way I am. I had my good friends Jackie and Julie here for a week and a half. In a way, before they came, I felt almost emotionless. Like I couldn't care anymore, and I just don't like myself when I feel like that. Point is, Jackie and Julie came when I really needed them to without even knowing it.

Anyways, point is, I think everything happens for a reason. I know it. I haven't reached the great peak in my life where everything makes sense, but little signs along the way tell me God's out there waiting for me to find my true calling in life. So, I've had a few this weekend. I ended up going out w/ my friend Kira and her friends on Friday night. As some of you know, I don't get to go out much. But I had ONE drink, and we went to the second bar, and I ended up dancing with no extra help at all (with an awkward situation on top of that). Have I ever done this? No. Then yesterday, I really wanted to go see StopLoss. I had no one to go with, so I went by myself. Which is completely fine. I couldn't really afford popcorn, but for some reason I really wanted some. And you know what happened? I got a free small popcorn coupon with my AMC card. Dinky, I know, but why the one time I want popcorn and can't afford it do I get a free small popcorn coupon? StopLoss was a really good movie. And I love Ryan Philippe. Mmm....I do!!

So then I went to barnes and noble in quest of a book I can devour b/c I'm still having book hangover from the outlander series. After spending an hour and a half in the store, I remember I want to read Mists of Avalon. Keys to the book: Historical, King Arther, and the most important part of any book I read.....a little romance. Done I'm already on page 40 and when you pick up this book it looks like it could be the bible. Not so much of a sign, but I'm glad it's a page turner for the subway.

Then this morning I decided I'd go to church at 9:30 because I want to watch the KU/Davidson game. So I went. I got turned around as I tend to do on the Upper West Side, could have been late, but I got there at 9:35. Mass was just about to begin. I know I'm not the best Catholic out there. I strive to be in my own way, though. Would you like to know what the homily was about? Fear of becoming part of the community. You know what? This is what I've been struggling with all week. And God just throws it in my face and says "What are you going to do about it? I'm here, I've got your back, you will fall some (what I've been doing), but it'll be OK in the end." So yeah. I need to get out there. I need to feel like a complete idiot with a huge group, but I can do it. Anyways, this was the biggest sign of all. Now, just where to find these groups is another question. But I figure if I get out there, with a little divine intervention, I'll find the right one.

Finally, I got paid. I had two spend $50 and only pay $25 at ann taylor loft. So I decided to go shopping after church. So there's this green dress I've been fixated on for a good month and a half. It's gone. The nice lady helping me finds the black one for me. OMG. I was in love. In fact, I have it on (trying it on w/ the shoes at home). I spent way too much money at ATL but I'm not upset with my spending (yet anyways). Got two black sweaters too.

Home sweet home. NYC can become that for me for the time I'm here. I just have to get out there and embrace it. And I know I can do that. I've only done that four other times in my life in four other places.

Have something your struggling with? I'm hear to listen (c; Cheesy, I know, had to throw in the little interaction part, like I do on my work blog posts. If you want to read those, shoot me an email and I'll give you the links. If I post 'em, bloggers have a really weird way of tracking the links that other bloggers post on the internet, and I wouldn't want them to read this stuff.

Now the fun on

So the last post was a summary. So now I'll give you all my random musings I just know you love hearing!!

So, I have embraced a few things as a New Yorker. My favorite....hands down.....is drop off laundry service! I paid $11 today for dropping my laundry off last night and picking it up today...clean, dry, and folded!! However, I always hear this phrase come out of my mouth as I'm going through my new clean laundry "oh smack! i let them wash that?!" and "uh oh, where'd the matching sock go?"

I also drank my first cup of real coffee. Just plain coffee!! A few mornings before we went sight seeing. Not too bad with half and half! I may be lowering my dependence on the carmel machaitto.....

So I have a new complex. It's called the Foo Fighters complex. OK, so for the Feb Foo Fighters concert, I got on 50 minutes after the tickets went on sale and tehy were sold out! So now, every time i hear about a show I have to buy tickets. These would include: 2 Augustana shows and a Foo Fighters show in July (mike and I have sixth row tickets!!!!)

I'm really excited to go see Stop Loss this weekend. And basketball. I'm also finally going to buy an under the bed box for the extra clothes in my closet.

I've been doing pretty well at writing for my blogs at work. I'm not going to post the names of them b/c bloggers have a tricky way of tracking back to my blog......which I don't think they need to know certain things about me....like my obsession with basketball.....so email me and i'll email you the links! I got my first guest blogger to post today on my innovation blog!!

OK, I had more funny stuff but I forgot. I hope you all enjoyed this!!

French Onion Dip

Long time no blog (I know, that's how I started out my last post) but I have reasons!! And this blog post is probibly going to be worth your time!!

Anyway, my post is titled b/c I'm not listening to music right now. But I did have some french onion dip earlier, and oh man. It's just better if I never have french onion dip mix in the cabinet, b/c I will eat it. OK. I finished a tub today, it lasted a week!! Record slow btw. OK, so back to the reason for the post. I'm not listening to music, I'm watching basketball. Yeah! March is my favorite month. OK, well, this paragraph in my post is dedicated to my roommates Laura and Megan b/c they get a lot of credit for dealing with my addiction! Props to them. They do not enjoy basketball near as much as I do. I promise, I don't have more sports to watch after college basketball until football comes back! Yeah, a lot nice with K State in the field! Too bad we suck. Michael!! Pass up millions and come back next year w/ Bill and win KSU a national championship!! I know you can do it!

Alright. What I've been up to since the last post. After my super crappy weekend, I decided to go home the next weekend. So I hung out w/ the parents and Mike. The highlight of teh weekend was HUGE storm that blew threw. We were playing some cards (go Washington State!! I have you beating UNC!) and I look up and ask if that's a piece of trash blowing across the yard. Nope, sure enough it was a skunk. When Penny found out she went nuts. It was way to enjoyable to watch a skunk waddle around the yard in 30 mph wind and driving rain.

The next weekeend was WAY more fun b/c Jackie Allen came to visit me! She came on Friday and we went straight to the bar to watch K State. We won! Satuday we saw stuff New York had to offer. We went up the Empire State Building. Had some Greek food. My personal favorite part of the day came at the end, when for some reason we both laughed so hard I couldn't breathe while we were trying to streatch our lower backs from walking all day. Sunday we went to the Modern (we both got yelled at for getting too close to a painting), something else and then we went to Rent. Favorite part of this day came at the end as well. Jackie and I were talking to Laura and Megan comes down the hall and says "Guys, I think there's a cat outside my windown." In unison, Laura, Jackie and I say "It's Juan's cat!"

St. Patrick's Day we didn't drink a drop of liquer but instead indulged in a "Death by Peanut butter" sunday (I can not for the life of me think of how to spell this right now). Came home and find out the KSU women are playing in Connecticut. Of course I'm not skipping it!!

Tuesday was back to work. I met jackie after work and we went grocery shopping. Then we came home and ate and she left at 4 am.

Then Wednesday, I met Julie, my friend i studied abroad with in France, in times square to give her my house keys so she could stay with me! I hadn't seen her since fall semseter senior year (2005). It was lovely having her here! She did, for the most part, embrace my need to watch a lot of basketball!! Thursday night we met at the K State bar to see then men pull an upset of USC. Friday I had off, so we watched a lot of basketball, went to the Moma, ate raw vegan (ew, yuck, etc) and got some cupcakes and came back and watched some more basketball. Saturday, I took her to my fav place to eat in the city....the Peanut Butter Store!! We ate our sandwiches in Washington Square Park and then proceeded to go watch KSU loose in the second round. We then made it from 86th street to 4th street in 30 minutes (record for me) to see the movie Paranoid Park. (Kristi did a great job of finding the name of this movie with two clues.....It had Jenny from Gossip Girl and had Park in the title, we did it all by text post KSU game!).

Sunday, my parents came with a few goodies from Walmart (a plunger, venus rasors and walmart cheese!) before we went to Connecticut to watch the girls have a rough game. That was all that consisted of our Sunday, really.

Monday. Julie and I met my cousin Chris for pizza and drinks. It was really a lot of fun! And then Tuesday we didn't do much b/c Julie had to leave early on Wednesday morning.

So there's your wrap up. I miss friends. I do get to go to Oregon in April and back to Kansas in May!!
